Rodia village, Messinia

the center of a traditional Greek
rural “paradise”

In the center of an organic farm within age-old olive trees, plots with herbs and aromatic plants, gardens with vegetables and fruits, coexisting harmoniously our restless ponies, among other animals deer, horses and cows.

This place is our farm: the “Greek Pony Farm”.

Our farm is located 2 km from the village of Rodia,
the Municipality of Trifilia of Messinia
in the Peloponnese Region of Greece.

In a traditional rural area at an altitude of approximately 500
meters, surrounded by mountains, and valleys and not far
from the picturesque Gulf of Kyparissia.

In the “Greek Pony Farm”, our efforts for even better top
quality and highly nutritious products never stop.
Nor the related investments do.

The land is expanded in order to give even more fruits in a smooth way so that trees, the soil and the environment are not exhausted. The well cared olive groves of the varieties «Koroneiki» and «Kalamata», harmoniously coexist with fruit trees and aromatic herbs and vegetables.

The machines, the facilities are updated and daily improved, by incorporating modern trends and technology. The special microclimate and the soil composition make each fruit, each tree unique.

The know-how and modernization of every aspect of the production surpasses even the principles of organic farming and approaches as a management philosophy the idea of the organic farming: plants, trees and dozens of animals are hosted at the farm and actively participate in the production process, creating a small, active, almost self-sustaining ecosystem that evolves and is being added with new elements on a daily basis.

Thus, the “Greek Pony Farm” and its products easily exceed the relevant criteria and provide a certification of organic farming, as well as a Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) certification that verifies the uniqueness of the area where these products belong…

“Our farm is a beautiful and serene place
a refuge with many interesting activities!”

Our Estate (from above)

We created our organic farm
approaching nature with respect and ethos,
not just to get from this but also to return to it,
or at least setting the conditions so that it can be replenished and self-healed.

Our varieties

On our land we cultivate
edible table olives of the “Kalamata” variety
and the “Koroneiki” variety for olive oil

The “Kalamata” variety

The “Kalamata” olives is a premium variety of edible olives of designated origin.

It is cultivated mainly in Messinia and Laconia and less in other regions of Greece.
Its fruit is big, bent unilaterally weighing 5-7 gr/a piece. One of the great advantages of this variety is that its core (kernel) is easily extracted. The olive has 16%-18% oil content. It retains its dark almost black flesh and its glossy skin until it is consumed.

The “Kalamata” olives of the Greek Pony Farm are selected picked by hand. They are processed following a traditional recipe which has been in the family for four generations and preserved only in brine and extra virgin olive oil. The resulting taste is of incomparable quality.

The “Koroneiki” variety

It is the dominant and the most emblematic Greek variety.

It is cultivated mainly in Peloponnese and Crete. It requires rich soil, moisture and sun and limited farming practices. It grows up to an altitude of 600 meters.
Its colour is greenish yellow and its aroma is mean to distinctively fruity. It has a rich taste and lasting aftertaste.
Yet, it gives an intensely bitter and spicy sensation, lending it premium balance. The lack of a great complexity in other aromas makes it unique. Its aroma of greens and fresh grass adds to its pronounced freshness.

It’s the combination of all the above characteristics that make the “Koroneiki” the variety of exquisite harmony in Greece and all over the world.
